Kenyatta International Conference
Centre(KICC) Main attraction
This is a 28 stoey building fondly referred to as the “KICC” ,it was constructed in the late 1960s and opened it’s doors to the most prestigious global conference of the to ever come to the African soil by the IMF/world bank conference in september 1973.
Designed by the Norwegian architect Karl Henrick Nostvik and our own David Mutiso the construction was done in three phases.
Phase 1 was the construction of the podium ,phase 2consisted of the main tower and phase 3 involved the plenary.Construction was completed in 1973 with the opening ceremony occuring in september 1973 presided over by Kenya’s founding father president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
The David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
Dame Daphne Sheldrick has been raising elephant orphans since the 1950s.When she live and worked in Tsavo national park.In the late 1970s she established an elephant and rhino nursery in Nairobi National Park as part of the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust ,named in the honor of her husband.
Nairobi National Park
Nairobi is the only city in the world that is gazed upon by wild zebra,lion and rhino.Nairobi national park was established in 1946 long before the city burst it’s seams ,but it is now located only 7 kilometres from the city center.
Nairobi National Museum
The Nairobi National Museum was founde in 1920 and established at it’s present loaction in1929.It offers the visitors the chance to learn about Kenya’s history ,culture ,paleontology and art.
